Are you prepared for College?

How are you going to pay for your kid's college? What college do they want to attend? What type of career path matches their personality and therefore which college would be best for them? What else should we be thinking about that we haven't already?

These are all questions that we parents can't ask early enough and I've found a wonderful resource that I want to share with all of you. The resource is Sallie Mae's College Answer website. Here you can find loads of information for both us parents, and our kids. Even if you aren't in the mood to educate yourself on college planning today - take a minute and register yourself of Upromise by clicking the Upromise link in the middle of the page. For those of you who are not familiar with Upromise, it is a wonderful way to start saving for college with absolutely no money out of your pocket. Upromise has established relationships with numerous (over 500 I think) stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. that will contribute money to a college savings plan that you can use for anyone you like. These are places you are already spending money by the way so no need to change your shopping habits. Yes, I know it sounds too good to be true but over 8.2MM people already take advantage of the savings program and I assure you that it doesn't make sense to not register for the absolutely FREE program.

For those of you who don't have time to surf the College Answer site, I've created some links to specific topics below in order to try and help:

This sounds like a wonderful idea, but what happens to remaining funds after all college expenses have been paid? I realize with the rising cost of education this is not a likely scenario. However, I still think it is something that should be considered. I clicked on the U Promise link and could not find information pertaining to transferability to other children or a possible withdrawal of un-used funds. Any thoughts?

Upromise isn't bad...it is my opinion that this company tries to form spending and saving patterns for you with a tiny reward. I am registered with them and have made a couple of bucks and would like to know if there are more efficient ways to use it.

I would suggest joining a similar free system with a much greater income potential from online shopping called My Power Mall. Go to http://www.mypowermallsystem.info It gives you more variety and you can use the money however you wish.
